The EVSC EdTech grant, in its fifth year, targets third, fourth, and fifth grade teachers and their students. Five public schools and two non-public schools are participating in this grant. The grant focuses on helping teachers to have a better knowledge of mathematical concepts and to construct concept-based lessons using a hands-on approach. The results have shown increased student understanding of math concepts.
The grant is facilitated by iCATS, a group of teachers in the Evansville-Vanderburgh School Corporation.
The first two years of the grant are outlined in this video.

To use a hands-on approach to learning to effect change in teacher practice and, consequently, increase student achievement in math.
Visit the Academics page to learn more about the the curriculum side of this grant. Listings on the Academic page include all of the resources that the iCATS have used in implementing this EdTech grant. We have tried to outline the steps that we have gone through from year one to the present. Check out the Lesson Plan sorter for a listing of all of the hands-on concept-based lessons written by the teachers in this grant.
To facilitate a change in teaching and learning by making teachers more proficient in their technology use.
The Technology section outlines some of the steps taken in helping teachers utilize technology more efficiently in their classrooms. Each year teachers are given a survey to assess how they presently use technology in their teaching. iCATS then address the teachers’ needs and help them build upon their present technology levels.
To encourage communication and collaboration from teacher to teacher, teacher to parent, and school to school.
The Communication section of this grant outlines the
programs iCATS have put in place to ensure collaboration and communication between school and the community.
All teachers now have their own easy to update website and are using IP video conferencing in their classrooms. Each school has held a successful Family Math Night and plans are in the making for repeating the events. All of these programs have helped move the teachers to a new level of communication.
