From the beginning of this EdTech Grant, the iCATS realized that we had to be available to the teachers of this grant. As the teachers attended workshops, the iCATS felt it was important to provide additional support in their classroom. So each of the iCATS took one school and provided this support. Immediately one of the teachers dubbed us their "MyCAT" and the name has stuck. So each building has a "MyCat", one of the iCATS that is ready to answer questions and provide necessary coaching and support.
During the first year of the grant, much support was needed and iCATS were in the buildings each week. We were available during the teachers plan periods and helped with issues that came up as they implemented hands-on math teaching in their classrooms.
Presently, iCATS continue to offer support whenever needed but have been able to decrease the amount of time spent in the buildings as teachers have become more self sufficient in the use of new technologies and in the hands-on methods of teaching. Presently iCATS visit the buildings for the grade level team plans once each month. Although we are not physically with the teachers as much this year, iCATS continue to offer support through email, listserv and workshops. |
