Participating Schools
The schools participating in this EdTech Grant Beyond the Textbook were selected based on several factors. First, the iCATS looked at the ISTEP+ scores of all of the EVSC schools. We noticed a dip in the sixth grade ISTEP+ scores. We decided that perhaps this dip could be addressed by helping students in the fourth and fifth grades. In our planning we decided to eliminate the program-rich Title I schools from our initial group as those schools already have a variety of extra programs in their schools and we felt like this grant would add another set of demands on those teachers.
The schools we chose had lower than expected ISTEP+ scores but were not among Vanderburgh Counties most affluent schools. All fourth and fifth grade teachers were presented with the parameters of the grant and contributed input into the grant’s direction. Likewise, each principal was informed and presented with information concerning the grant.  School teams, consisting of all fourth and fifth grade teachers, including special education teachers, expressed a desire to participate in the project. All Evansville non-public schools were invited to participate in the development and implementation of the grant.  Two schools, Evansville Christian and Holy Spirit, had similar data and needs and joined in our target group. The first 2 years of the grant we worked with fourth and fifth grade teachers from the selected schools as well as special education teachers that worked with those students. Presently we are working with the elementary schools of Daniel Wertz, Dexter, Hebron, Tekoppel, Vogel as well as the two non public schools, Evansville Christian and Holy Spirit.

This year, 2006-2007, we have added the third grade teachers at Dexter and at Vogel. We continue to work with the fourth and fifth grade teachers as well as special education teachers. Presently iCATS are working with 55 teachers in grades three, four and five.

Each year the teachers were given expectations. The expectations have changed each year as we have progressed through the EdTech Grant. Here are the teacher expectations for the EdTech Grant.
