Listing for EdTech Workshops 2007-2008

During this grant the iCATS have offered professional development in the form of workshops designed with the needs of the teachers in mind. As the teachers needs have changed the content of these workshops have also changed. In the first two years of the grant, the workshop content centered on helping teachers’ plan and implement hands-on concept based mathematics lessons in their teaching. Teachers began to write math lessons to match this way of teaching. Year three gave teachers a more in-depth look at each of the math standards and they in turn fine tuned and added new lessons to the lesson bank. During year three, we added third grade classrooms from two of our EdTech schools.

In year four of this EdTech grant, workshops were provided for the fourth, fifth, and special education teachers that gave them the time needed to make sure that every component of the lesson was accurate on the lesson plan sorter. Third grade teachers attended workshops that covered the math standards and worked to add to the third grade lessons bank.

In year five, teachers are working on problem solving skills. Monthly workshops will give teachers the time needed to relate problem solving to their math lessons.

All of the workshops provided have given teachers the time, expertise, access, resources, and support to be successful in the classroom with this project.

Here are the EdTech Workshops for 2007-2008. Each workshop will address a strategy used in problem solving. Teachers will receive a problem to take back and use in their classrooms. At the next monthly workshop teachers will reflect on the student work from that problem and receive another problem that will emphasize another problem solving strategy.

All workshops will take place at Christa Professional Development Center. Please email Carol Hudson to sign up for these workshops.
