The iChat icon in the doc of your new Mac can open a world of communication opportunities for you, as well as your students. Get started by clicking the icon.

To communicate with other iChat users in your own building, you can skip the account setup and simply use Bonjour. This is the simplest connection, but only works within one building. In iChat, go to the 'Window' menu and click on 'Bonjour List'. Users will show up in this list only when their computers are on, and iChat is running. If your name appears incorrectly, you should adjust it in your Mac's Address Book application.

The remainder of this tutorial will show you how to set up the Jabber Account, which will allow you to communicate with users in other buildings of the EVSC. If you would like to do this, use the email links to the right, and send us the password you use for your EVSC email account. We will use that to set up an account for you on our OSX Server and email you back when the account is ready.

Once you have your account information, you can find the introductory account screen by going to the iChat menu, choosing 'Preferences...' and selecting the 'Accounts' tab. Here, clicking on the '+' in the bottom left corner should get you the same account screen you get upon entering the program the first time.

You can set up several different kinds of accounts, as you can tell from the 'Account Type' drop-down menu. To communicate school-to-school, choose Jabber Account. This uses the account we set up for you in the step above.

Next, enter the Account Name and Password that we return to you in the email indicating that your account is set up.

ex. Account Name: fistnamelastname@isxserve.evsc.k12.in.us
ex. Password: ABC12345

Then, click the small triangle next to Server Options.
This will open two text boxes. Enter the following information into those boxes.

Server: isxserve.evsc.k12.in.us

Port: 5222

Finally, click "Done" in the bottom-right corner of this window. If you have entered information correctly, you should be connected to the server, and see a Jabber List open on your desktop. To add contacts to this list, click the '+' in the bottom-left corner and choose 'Add Buddy.'

In the window that opens, enter the name and account for anyone that you know has already been setup on our server. Feel free to contact us to test it out!

Once contacts are added, it may take a bit for them to accept the invitation. When they do, they will be added to your list, and you will be able to see when they are available for contact.
