1). My login has been disabled. Who is the "System Administrator?"

ANSWER: The System Administrator is actually quite a few people in the Office of Technology downtown. To get your password reset, just email login@evsc.k12.in.us. Be sure to include your RDS username in the body of the email. They check this email constantly to ensure you are back using the Teacher Module quickly.

2). I HAVE set the grading scale, but I keep getting the message that says I have not!

ANSWER: You're almost there! You need to go into the Course Setup of the gradebook and apply the grading scale to BOTH the Grading Period Total and Semester Total. Once you do that, the message will go away.

WARNING - A grading scale has not been selected for the Grading Period or Semester in your Course Setup.

3). My students grades are not calculating correctly or are not showing up.

ANSWER: We get this question emailed to us all the time and there is an easy fix for it. There are quite a few things that can be set wrong that causes this problem.

Solution #1 of 4

Do you have the correct view turned on when you entered the grades into your grade book?

Here's an example: You have the view set on "View Letter Grades" and you entered RAW scores in the blanks. As you enter the scores, RDS will accept them, but will not be able to use the data as part of the students' overall grade.

To fix: Print out a report of the grades entered so far [Grade Book Printable Version] (Your grades will disappear in the next step). Change the View setting to match the input for the assignment (Raw for Raw, Letter for Letter, Percent for Percent). Re-enter the scores.

NOTE: To prevent this from happening again in the future, you can turn on error checking in RDS that will alert you before you start down the road on this problem. Go to View/Edit -> Validate Grades on Entry.

Solution #2 of 4

Check your Course Setup to make sure you didn't setup Drop Assignments yet.

Always wait until the end of a grading period before dropping assignments. Otherwise, grades you put in will not calculate as they will be dropped.

Solution #3 of 4

Check that you have a grading scale applied in the Course Setup in BOTH the "Grading Period Total" and the "Semester Total" sections.

5). One of my students disappeared! How do I get him back?

ANSWER: There are three possiblities that could be causing this problem.

1). The student has just been enrolled in your class. New students will not show up in the teacher module grade book until the following day. If the student is still not listed the next day, contact your school counselor.

2). The student has been withdrawn from your class, and has transferred to another one of your classes, a different teacher, or a different school. To view the student's grades, do the following:

3). If the above reasons were not the case, you need to have the office at your school investigate the issue. If they can't find the answer, they will need to contact Tom Sandidge to assist.

6). Where do I get the skills assignments for my Skills Entry class?

ANSWER: Teachers will need to import the Skills Entry Assignments into their Teacher Module Skills Entry Class when setting up their grade books each school year.

Click here for directions on Importing the EVSC Skills Assignments.

7). My Skills Assignments have disappeared in my Skills Entry Class! Where did they go?

ANSWER: There could be two reasons why your Skills Assignments may not be showing up. Try the following first before importing the assignments into the class.

1). Make sure "Display Grade Card Scores and Final Grades" is turned on.

2). Make sure your View & Order tab is set with the following. Skills Entry assignments use the category "Grade Card." If you are filtering your assignments, this may be why they're missing.

3). If your Skills Assignments are still not appearing, you will need to import the EVSC Skills assignments to the class. Click here for directions on Importing the EVSC Skills Assignments.

8). How do I make changes to my grades once I have submitted them for grade cards?

ANSWER: Teachers have at least 6 working days to submit grades to the system for grade cards. Teachers can make changes to grades that have been submitted for grade card at any time during the submit window (unlocked columns only) for a given grading period / semester. Teachers can submit and verify their grades as often as they like with no limits. Once the submit window has closed, a teacher will need to contact the administrator in their building to have changes made to grades in the AS400 system.

Remember to verify the grades that have been submitted to the system by going to the Reports menu and clicking Verify Submitted Grades Report.

9). Why am I able to enter the wrong type of data (RAW into Letter Grade) or more points than an assignment is worth in a cell and RDS not tell me that it's wrong?

ANSWER: RDS Teacher Module is not setup to error check inputted data by default.

You can turn on error checking by going to View/Edit -> Validate Grades on Entry.

Validate Grades on Entry

With error checking turned on, RDS Teacher Module will give you an error pop-up window when you enter data incorrectly. Be sure to read this window carefully so you can correct the mistake and continue entering your grades.

10). Is there a way I can combine some of these classes together?

ANSWER: Yes. You will need to do a Course Combination with these classes to bring them together. To review the procedure for creating a Course Combination, check out the how-to.

Max Score

Select this option if the number of questions for the assignment does not match Normal Pts. for the assignment.

For example, if an assignment with 16 questions is worth 10 points, select 10 for Normal Pts. and 16 for Max Score. When a grade for this assignment is entered as a raw score, enter scores out of 16 points; the scores will be translated to a 10 point equivalent. Score 16 = 10 points, score 8 = 5 points, etc.
