IDOE Educator Licensing and Development Title Pic

It is now much easier to renew your teaching license in the State of Indiana. Now, the criminal history check and application for licensure can all be done online from one website. Here's the great thing... the criminal history check now is FREE when doing it through the IDOE website! However, there is still a fee for the application of the license.

One caution….The online licensing system works for most actions on your license; however, it doesn’t work for all actions.   Always consult with the licensing advisor at the university where you’re sending your online application prior to completing the online application (fees are not refundable).  In some cases (such as removing an internship), the licensing advisor may need additional documents or additional information.

Here are the steps to follow when applying for your license:

STEP 1

- First consult your licensing advisor at the university where you're sending your online application prior to completing the online application. If the university where you received your credits isn't using this website, you will lose your money if you use the website. The fee is not refundable. To contact your licensing advisor at your Indiana college or university, go to http://www.doe.state.in.us/dps/licensing/advisors/contact.html.

STEP 2

- (ANSWER: YES) If your licensing advisor says that you can use the website, read the following document to learn how to start the process. IDOE Teacher License Application Online Manual. For other licensing documents, go to http://www.doe.state.in.us/dps/.

When finished, go to https://dc.doe.state.in.us/DPSWeb/Public/Login.aspx to start the application process.

- (ANSWER: NO) If your licensing advisor says that they do not use the website, then you're going to have to renew your license the old-fashioned way. Go to http://www.doe.state.in.us/dps/ for more information.

STEP 3

- Once you have completed the process of the criminal history check and the application for the license, wait for your license to come in the mail.

STEP 4

- When you receive your license, take it downtown to the Personnel Office in the EVSC Admin Building. They will make a copy of the license and put the copy in your file.

  • During your next 5 years, don't forget to go back to school to get renewing credits for your license.
Time flies when you're having fun!

  • To renew your license again, repeat steps 1-4. Be sure to mention if you have used the website before or not.

If you have any other questions about this process, please consult the licensing advisor at your local university or college.
