This Week’s Theme- Speak Out
Sometimes it feels like the world can be hostile to new voices and new ideas. But we know that a healthy society depends upon everyone having the opportunity to contribute their thoughts to the global discussion. Teaching our students how to think clearly and share their ideas with the world is one of the main goals of education. It’s not enough to have great ideas or to develop great expertise. We have to share those ideas with the world. It’s not enough to know what is right in the face of what is wrong. We have to speak out and advocate for our beliefs.
This week we hope you will reflect on the things that really matter to you as educators. We would love for you to share with us pictures of things that matter to you. Share photos of the parts of our profession that inspire you. Show us the change you want to see in the world. We’d also love to see pictures of how you inspire students to find and share their own voices. The #EVSCStory can’t be told unless we make the effort to speak out.
NOTE: You absolutely DO NOT have to match the theme to share a picture with us. Feel free to share any photo that helps us tell the #EVSCstory at ANY time.
This week is also the last week of the call for proposals for this summer’s eRevolution Conference. Every year we host an amazing teaching and learning conference that features more than 200 sessions. The best part of our conference, though, is that the vast majority of those sessions are led by our own teachers and students.
This photo was taken at the 2012 EVSC eRevolution Conference by Jerrad Gleim. It was edited in Pixlr, a great set of photo editing tools from Autodesk. If you would like to learn more about Pixlr, check out this post.
How to Share Your Photos
There are four ways that you can share the photos that you take with us:
- You can share via Instagram- Simply post your Instagram photos using the hashtag #EVSCstory. Feel free to add other hashtags as well to indicate the theme (e.g. #Speak), or add more information to the caption to help tell the story.
- You can share via Twitter- Post your photos to Twitter using the hashtag #EVSCstory. Again, we invite you to add other hashtags, including some of our EVSC hashtags like #evscchat. You can also include our Twitter handle (@evscicats) to ensure we see your pictures as soon as you post.
- You can share via Facebook- Visit our ICATS Facebook page, click the Message button in the upper-right corner, and in the text of the message give us your name, school, and the theme for the week. Be sure to attach the photo by clicking the Add Files button. While you are there, we’d love it if you liked our page :) OR, simply share your image on your own Facebook feed, and include the #EVSCstory hashtag.
- You can share via Google Drive- If social media isn’t your thing, feel free to share your photos directly with us through Google Drive. Use this link to access our shared folder. You will need to then click the blue Open in Drive button. Then drag your photo into the window, or click the red upload arrow in the upper-left to search for your photo and click Open. It would help us if you would name your photo with the week’s theme and your name and school.
